So, you made the switch to an electric vehicle. Good for you! EVs are the car of the future, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least 60 percent of all vehicles on the road being electric within the next 10-15 years.
Electric vehicles have a much smaller impact on the environment, and you never have to worry about gas shortages or the price of gas ever again!
Besides not having to worry about gas prices, EVs don’t require as much maintenance, which can save you a nice little bundle of cash.
This doesn’t mean that EVs never need servicing, they do, but they don’t require oil changes or tune-ups, the way a regular gas engine does.
In fact, let me share with you the top 5 tips you can follow that can keep your EV in good running condition and even extend the life of your car.
Top Tips for Caring for Your EV
Practicing some of the following tips won’t take the place of regularly scheduled maintenance, but it can help you avoid potential problems. Check your owner’s manual for the recommended maintenance plan for your make and model.
Tip #1- Take Good Care of the Motor
Like all vehicles, the motor is the heart of your car. You need to take good care of it and while it doesn’t need the typical maintenance a gas engine does, pay attention to any warning lights, strange sounds, or drivability problems that may occur. When you notice these things, bring your car to the shop ASAP. A delay can be a costly one! At Bockman’s Auto, Truck & Tire, we have experienced and ASE-certified technicians who can properly service or repair the motor on your EV.
Tip #2- Avoid Overcharging the Battery
Resist the urge to charge your battery to 100 percent every single time you recharge. This is true of electric cars, golf carts, and any battery.
You can extend the life of the battery by not letting it sit with very little charge for more than 2 weeks at a time. If you must leave the vehicle parked for longer than 2 weeks, charge the battery completely, then unplug it from the charger.
Tip #3- Park Smarter
Ensure that you understand how to keep the battery in the car running for as long as possible.
For example, parking your car in the shade will help to extend the life of the battery. When the car is parked in direct sunlight, the thermal management system will respond to the temperatures and this system will keep operating to prevent the battery from overheating in the sunlight.
The Best Tip for Overcoming EV Maintenance
Even EVs need some maintenance, such as rotating the tires, inspecting the brakes, and keeping the coolant level full.
If you don’t feel comfortable servicing your expensive EV, I don’t blame you.
There is an easy solution, however. Bring the car to Bockman’s Auto, Truck & Tire. We have competitive rates and are ready and eager to help you keep your EV running for many years to come.
